Longview put up 31 first half points and coasted to its third straight win of the season in a 38-14 win over Lake Highlands Friday night at Wildcat-Ram Stadium. It was the Lobos' fourth straight win over Lake Highlands (1-2).

Leading 31-0 at halftime, many of the Lobos had already taken a seat on the bench as Longview substituted freely.

Longview got contributions all the way around.

Backup quarterback D'Marcus Miles came off the bench with under five minutes left before halftime and directed two scoring drives, including an 81-yard touchdown completion to Michael George, who pulled in a tipped pass near midfield and ran untouched into the end zone with no time remaining.

Miles finished the game with 143 yards on 5-of-7 completions. He also scored once on the ground. Second string fullback Michael Johnson added 73 yards on 17 carries as Vondrell McGee (7-75) and Chris Ivory (9-72) had already been sent to the sideline.

McGee, who scored twice in the ballgame, caused a few nervous jitters among the Longview faithful as he lay on the turf after taking a hard hit with under five minutes remaining in the opening quarter. He returned later in the second frame, picking up 23 yards and then finishing off a three-play, 50 yard drove with a 16-yard run for a 31-0 Lobo advantage.

The Lobos outgained Lake Highlands 494-200, and most of Lake Highlands' yardage came during the fourth quarter as the Wildcats scored twice. Longview passed for 229 yards as Miles and Carlin Freeman were a combined 10-of-17. The Lobos had an additional 265 on the ground.

Wildcat quarterback Daniel Miller, who came into the game with nearly 400 yards through the air, was 14-of-26 for 126 yards, although he was picked off three times. Calvin Jackson, Cartez Beall and Chris Carter each came away with interceptions for the Lobos.

The Wildcats managed only 52 yards rushing – they had minus-2 at halftime.

Longview came out firing on all cylinders. The Lobos turned their opening two possessions into touchdowns, then perfected the tip drill for a score as the half ended to take a commanding 31-0 lead into the dressing room.

Lake Highlands won the toss to start out, but that would be one of the few highlights during the opening half of the team's first home game of the season. Longview was playing its third straight game away from Lobo Stadium – the Lobos make their home debut next week against Shreveport Evangel.

On the first play from scrimmage, Jackson took the ball away from Quinton West near midfield and gave the Lobos possession at the Lake Highlands 46. It took Longview three plays before Ivory broke into the open for a 30-yard score, getting a key downfield block from McGee to spring him into the end zone.

Longview's defense forced a three-and-out as it pinned the Wildcats deep in their own end of the field. Cody Williams and Ben Huddleston spun Lake Highlands' offense in reverse and forced a punt and the Lobos took possession at the 41.

This time it was McGee who finished off the four-play drive with a 30-yard sprint into the end zone. Zach Decker's extra point gave the Lobos a 14-0 lead with 7:04 showing on the clock.

Lake Highlands' third offensive series reached midfield before it was forced to punt again. However, Longview's next possession would end in an interception at the Wildcat 15.

The Wildcats would finally cross midfield, but Tim Harris was eventually called upon to punt again for the third time to start the second quarter. This time the Lobos would mount a 13-play drive, which saw Freeman convert three third down calls on passes for 12 and 22 yards to Adrian Reese and 24 to Ivory, before stalling out. Decker then came on and successfully converted a 21-yard field goal.

McGee added his fifth rushing touchdown of the season at the 3:44 mark, and Miles and George hooked up for the 81-yard scoring completion as time expired in the second quarter.

Decker was 4-for-4 kicking extra points, and Michael Mrkacek was good on his only attempt.
