Recap
LONGVIEW ESCAPES 20-19
LONGVIEW - John Tyler wants to knock off a district 11-5A opponent more than anything, and their dream nearly came true tonight.

Longview, up 20-6 going into the fourth quarter, nearly let the game slip out of its hands late in the ballgame.

John Tyler scored with 2:13 remaining in the game and recovered a well-executed onside kick.

They marched down the field and were helped by the Lobos on a personal foul facemask penalty which put the Lions on the six yardline.

JT scored on a short pass with 11 seconds left in the contest making the score 20-19.  That's as close as they'd come.  With the John Tyler fans smelling overtime, the Lobos made the key play of the game, blocking the extra point and preventing John Tyler from winning its first game in 11-5A this year.

The Lobos' QB Quincy Grant was injured in the third quarter as he was tackled after running 30 yards on a successful fake punt.

He walked off the field mostly on his own power, but his return to action is unknown at this point.  He sat out the remainder of the game.

Sophomore Carlin Freeman replaced the injured Grant and showed some inexperience, with two misdirected pitches in the 4th quarter resulting in two turnovers to the Lions. Freeman was just moved up from the JV this week.

His record as JV quarterback before being moved up was 7-0 this season. Look for Freeman to step it up in the next couple of weeks if Grant is unable to return.  Freeman's smart with a cannon for a arm.

Overall, Longview's still in the district title hunt with Lufkin's loss tonight to Tyler Lee, 21-14.  Longview faces Tyler Lee next week at Rose Stadium in Tyler.
