The Lobos improve to 4-0 as they look ahead to next week's District 12-5A opener against Mesquite at Hanby Stadium. Evangel remains winless on the year at 0-3. The Eagles return home to take on Cotton Valley.

Longview rolled up 305 yards rushing, led by Vondrell McGee's 154 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns. Chris Ivory added 87 yards on 13 carries with a pair of scores as well. Carlin Freeman was 6-of-11 passing for 87 yards and a touchdown, and D'Marcus Miles added a completion in his only attempt for 21 yards.

Michael Johnson also came off the bench to rush for a touchdown. Jazmon Moon collected 50 yards on six carries in a backup role. Through the air, David Robinson caught three passes, giving him 10 receptions this season, for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Longview held Evangel to 31 yards on the ground and 69 through the air. Eagles quarterback Jordan Powell was also intercepted three times, including a 25-yard return by Laderrick Satterwhite for a touchdown.

Powell finished 11-of-25 for the game, and he was sacked twice. Jarvis Pippins and Calvin Jackson also came away with interceptions for the Lobos.

Joe McNight led the Eagles with 27 yards rushing on nine carries, plus he caught three passes for 14. But, the Hurricane Katrina evacuee from New Orleans provided some anxious moments for Lobo fans with 138 yards on five returns, including an 81-yard kickoff returned for a touchdown.

Friday's game opened with an explosion of points. Longview scored the first two times it touched the ball and Evangel ran back consecutive kickoffs.

But, Longview responded by scoring 17 more points to take a 31-14 lead into the dressing room.

Special teams were the spark early, although only by the team receiving the ball.

McGee, who rushed for 78 yards in the first half, started the scoring on a 17-yard sprint to the end zone. Longview took advantage of a shanked Evangel punt, starting near midfield.

Freeman and Michael George hooked up for eight yards, which was followed a 24-yard run from Ivory. On the play, the Eagles were flagged 15 yards for a personal foul, setting up McGee's scoring run.

However, Evangel came right back on the ensuing kickoff as Ramon Broadway took the ball the distance for an 82-yard return.

Not to be outdone, Pippins nearly broke it the distance as well as he took Evangel's kick 63 yards to the Eagle 19. A series of penalties set the Lobos up with a third-and-goal from the 23. Evangel then let Longview off the hook with a pass interference call, giving it an automatic first down.

On first-and-goal, Ivory picked up five yards, then finished off the drive with a 1-yard carry into the end zone.

But, Evangel wasn't done as McNight duplicated Broadway's feat with an 81-yard sprint to the end zone. With 6:41 still left in the first quarter, the game was tied at 14-all.

McGee, however, gave Longview good field position with a 50-yard return to the Eagle 38. The Lobos would reach the 20 before Zach Decker came on to kick his second field goal of the season, a 36-yarder at the 3:56 mark. The sophomore kicker was 7-for-7 converting extra points.

Longview's defense then took over, forcing a fumble on Evangel's next series with Letroy Ayers stymieing an Eagle drive deep inside Lobo territory. They would march 73 yards in nine plays with Robinson using his full 6-foot, 3-inch frame to pull in a 27-yard pass from Freeman in the left front-corner of the end zone.

The Lobos added one more score before halftime as Ivory rumbled in for his second touchdown of the night with 5:30 left. It followed a second shanked punt by Evangel.

Longview went into the game ranked No. 3 in the state.
