It's not that the Lobos haven't had success throwing the ball this season, but the passing game, and many other things, went very well in Longview's 68-0 thrashing of Dallas Bryan Adams in a Class 5A, Division II bi-district playoff before 5,000 spectators at Hanby Stadium.

The win was the biggest in the playoffs in Longview history, breaking the previous mark of 51-0 in a bi-district playoff against Livingston in 1927. The all-time biggest win for the Lobos was also in 1927, an 84-0 decision over Jefferson.

"We feel good about setting the record," Longview running back Jazmon Moon said. "This team is just so special."

Three of Longview's first four pass completions went for touchdowns, including a 41-yard strike from D'Marcus Miles to a wide-open Jazmon Moon to open the scoring with 10:29 left in the first half. Miles also found David Larsen on a 43-yard strike and zipped a 2-yard touchdown pass to Stevie Johnson in the first half as Longview built a 28-0 lead against the out-matched Cougars.

"Their playing level was about middle school," Moon said. "It wasn't varsity level."

Longview (9-2) advances to an area playoff against Garland (9-2) at 7 p.m. next Saturday at Texas Stadium in Irving. Garland edged Plano West, 23-21, in a bi-district playoff on Saturday. Bryan Adams, which made its first playoff appearance since 1985 and hasn't won a playoff game since 1967, ends its season at 3-8.

Longview scored touchdowns on seven of its eight first-half possessions. The running game was just as potent as the passing, rolling for 220 yards on 25 carries in the first half. The Lobos finished with 281 yards rushing and did not punt in the game.

The only time Longview didn't score was when Moon appeared to suffer a shoulder injury while fumbling the ball with 6:10 left in the first half. However, Moon later returned and had 48 yards rushing on six carries.

Moon said his shoulder popped out of its socket and was placed back in.

Longview's defense was powerful as well, holding Bryan Adams to eight first-half yards, sparked by three sacks and three tackles for losses. For the game, Longview had 10 tackles for losses. Bryan Adams had 13 total yards of offense, including a minus-37 in rushing and six turnovers.

History was made by the Longview defense as Sherman Rosborough made his 10th interception of the season, a Longview record, with 7:48 left in the second quarter. Michael Manning also had an interception in the first half for Longview and had two for the game.

"Cody Morrow tipped the ball to me," said Rosborough of his record-breaking pick. "Do I feel sorry for Bryan Adams? I don't know how I feel. I just feel good about winning the game."

When Rosborough made his interception, Longview rested its starters on offense. Miles had 119 yards passing in his 1 1/3 quarters of play, while Mark Johnson had 63 yards rushing, including a touchdown.

Johnny Garrett led the Longview reserves with 98 yards rushing in the first half, including a 3-yard touchdown run with 16 seconds remaining in the first half. Longview kicker Zach Decker was 6-for-6 on extra-point attempts, with Longview's only failed PAT in the first half after Garrett's touchdown on a bad snap.

Rosborough said the starters were told to take off their uniforms for the second half. The starters watched the reserves play in the second half in warm-ups.

Sparking the reserves were touchdown runs of 9 and 1 yards by Austin Smith, and Tommy Davis returning an interception for a touchdown and making two tackles for losses. Pierre Shires had 50 yards passing for Bryan Adams.

Tickets for the Longview-Garland game will go on sale on Monday at the LISD Athletic Office. Tickets will be sold from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday — with offices remaining open during the lunch hour — and 8 a.m.-noon on Wednesday.

Tickets will be $7 for adults, $5 for students. All tickets are $10 at Texas Stadium.
